I worked last weekend and have been trying to take my "day off" all week. I did have a work meeting first thing this morning, but after that, it was off to the spa....well, sort of. First I got a prenatal massage. Then off to the prenatal chiropractor. My doula recommended this particular chiropractor as he has a great track record for adjusting the pelvis to optimum suitability for the baby to position herself. Then it was off to the pool for some anti-gravity exercise. And to top it off, a haircut. Yes, I went pretty short. Barry was a little scared. "Uh oh, she got a mommy cut!" Barry has always liked it longer but man, the shag just had to go!

Spa day for mommy

Tests, tests, tests.
I passed my gestational diabetes screen with flying colors. Blood sugar was 114 after all that nasty sugary drink. However, it turns out I am a little anemic so I started on an iron supplement. My midwife recommended one that is supposed to be non-constipating ( I hope!). Hopefully it will help with the fatigue I've been feeling this past week.

28 weeks: The final trimester
Everything seems bigger now. Not just the belly, baby, or the boobs, but also the prospect of becoming parents very soon. Big worries, big plans, big fear, big excitement. I had my glucose tolerance test on Friday. Don't have the results yet, but I would be very surprised if the results were anything but normal. Funny, they walked in all loaded with a Rhogam shot to give me since my blood type is Rh negative. I was like "Whoa! Wait a minute, I don't need that since my husband is also Rh negative." They said "Do you have a lab result to confirm that?" Well, no one ever told me ahead of time "If you have a lab confirm your husband's blood type before your 28 week check up, you won't need a Rhogam shot". It was just assumed that "oh, she's B neg, give'er the shot!" Because I asked, they gave me a lab order for Barry rather than giving me the Rhogam. I bet there are plenty of women out there getting needless Rhogam because they don't know to question it. It should be the job of the practitioners to guide women to make informed decisions...and I feel like my practioners are doing a pretty darn good job for the most part.

27 weeks: What is in there?
I think its an alien. Now actually able to see her move around which is a little creepy. I think she is picking a favorite spot as I seem to feel the biggest moves around my LUQ (nurse talk for Left Upper Quadrant of the abdomen) although she certainly hasn't given up on bladder punches. Io should look quite handsome in the picture as he had spring bath after our walk today. I gave him the works with blow-dry (which he loves!), chicken-flavor toothpaste (which he also loves), and nail trimming (which he hates!).

26 weeks: the official D-cup
Tammy and Paige came down this weekend for a low key, rainy Easter weekend. Tammy and I got pedicures and I did a little shopping for short-sleeved shirts that will cover the belly...oh, and a couple new bras. I could no longer stand spilling out of the the 34 C and upgraded to a well filled-in 34 D. Yikes! What happened to my barely B's?
Io and I are watching "Marley and Me" in the picture, very cute. He had to have felt the baby kicks, thinking "wow, imagine what this kid will do with my soccer ball!"

Birthday boys
Barry and his dad share the same birthday, April 4th. Barry flew Dick up here for the weekend so they could celebrate their b-days together for the first time over 10 years. It seems that Dick brought the sunshine from Phoenix with him for the weekend for which we were all grateful. We had snow a week ago and today reached 70 degrees! Dick flew home Sunday but apparently left some sunshine here.
